Instead of making New Years’ resolutions how about we make a plan for a new start.
Resolutions tend to phase out in a couple of weeks because we loose steam, motivation or direction but having a plan for a new/fresh start has the power of intention and accountability.
A plan to improve and change the things in our daily lives that we can change. Instead of hoping to make change, lets make a plan of attack, taking small steps to achieve the bigger goal. Hope is NOT a plan!
Take a good look at your life, at your home environment, at your job, at your personal appearance. What bothers you about it? What do you want to change? Not what you think others see but what you see and feel.
1. Write down the items you want to change and what the changes would look like?
For example:
"My clothes no longer fit me and I look dumpy which causes me to feel bad about myself and it’s affecting my job opportunities".
A sort/edit of your closet is needed. A closet full of clothes that don’t fit your current life is no help. Thrift stores and consignment stores have a great selection of clothes at reduced prices. Selecting clothes that flatter your body shape, reflect your personality and are reflective of the job that you want, will not only improve your self-esteem but will help you get to where you want to be. I've heard the saying " Dress for the job you want, not the job you have," wise words!
"My home is a mess and I hate living in a dump! "
A declutter/organize session is needed. It may involve a purge, new storage systems or a move. Knowing where to start is usually the hardest part and then it’s a smooth roll to the finish line of having a home that you love. I always suggest starting with the area that causes you the most daily stress and frustration. Once that's tackled, you'll have confidence to complete other areas. Find a friend, family member or hire a professional to help you get your home under control and reduce your stress, taking less precious time to maintain a tidy/organized home can allow you to spend more time improving yourself and helping others. I've created a free checklist for bathrooms to help you maintain a tidy and organized bathroom. Daily habits/routines that will turn your chaotic bathroom into an easy to tidy oasis. If you would find this helpful, drop me your email address and I will send it off to you. For more tips on getting a tidy home, check out these past blogs:
"I hate my job! My boss is condescending and takes me for grated."
Maybe it’s time to switch departments or jobs. Start looking at the requirements for the job that you want, it might mean taking some courses while working at your current job until you can apply to your dream job. Take the steps to get you where you want to be.
2. Write down the steps to make each change happen.
It may be small, like researching an idea or finding contact information but every little thing can get you closer. You're closer with each decision and action. You may not know the steps but this is where the research and inquiries happen. (that counts as a step!)
3. Act on these steps! Do the work, and you'll see results! It may take some time, all good things do! Little by little.
-Make it easy to get dressed in the morning because everything that you own makes you feel great and look great. Ready to take on the world!
-Sorting one pile of papers, hanging one backpack up, clearing one floor of stuff at a time. Giving everything a 'home' so that everything isn't dumped somewhere different each time and then moved around in an endless cycle of clutter. -Sign up for the course that'll improve your skills, look amazing on a resume and ultimately get you the job of your dreams. Everyone starts somewhere and only your determination can limit you.
It won’t happen if you don’t make it happen!!
