Adaptiv Home Modification (Aging in Place)

Updated: Aug 23, 2022

Do you want to stay in your home for as long as possible but not sure if it’s safe?

Aging in Place is defined as the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently and comfortably regardless of age, income, or ability level.

According to a 2021 study released by Globe News, nearly 90% of adults over the age of 50 want to remain at home.

This may:

  • Improve your quality of life

  • Insulate you from the bacterial and viral risks associated with long term care facilities

  • Be less expensive to make adjustments to a home than to move

We can assess the home to see what can be changed that would allow you to function safely and independently. Some changes are DIYs and others may need to have trades people brought in to make sure that the Safety Code is observed.

These changes may prolong your independence, your quality of life and freedom to continue living us you have been.

An Adaptiv Home Specialist, is a person that’s trained to perform a home assessment for people that want to remain in their homes but because of aging or an accident, they find that their homes aren’t meeting their needs.

The in-depth assessment will look at the person’s unique wants and needs in conjunction with their Occupational Therapist or Caregivers’ input. The exterior and interior are both taken into account during the assessment because you have to enter into the home safely before the interior even comes into play.

We look at the slope of the driveway, width of the walkways, porches, landings, doorways, lighting, mats, systems for organizing, contrasting colours for better visibility, railings around steps and stairways, grab bars in the bathroom and so much more.

If you want to stay in your home for as long as possible, it could happen if you make your home safer and adapted it to your needs and wants.
